Home Loan EMI Calculator — Housing & House Loan
The home loan EMI calculator helps you plan your biggest financial commitment. For a ₹50 lakh home loan at 8.75% for 20 years, the monthly EMI is approximately ₹44,020. Enter your exact loan offer in the calculator above for a precise figure.
The housing loan EMI calculator works for all property types — apartments, independent houses, plots with construction, and balance transfer cases. The same formula applies regardless of property type: EMI = P × R × (1+R)^N / [(1+R)^N – 1].
Tax benefits on home loans: Under Section 80C you can claim up to ₹1.5 lakh deduction on principal repayment per year. Under Section 24(b) you can claim up to ₹2 lakh deduction on interest paid for self-occupied property. Together, these make home loans significantly cheaper on an after-tax basis.
Personal Loan EMI Calculator
The personal loan EMI calculator is the most-used variant for instant cash needs — personal loans require no collateral and are approved within 24–72 hours. However they carry higher interest rates (typically 10.5%–24%) compared to secured loans.
For a ₹5 lakh personal loan at 12% for 3 years, your monthly EMI would be ₹16,607 and total interest paid would be ₹97,852. Use the "Personal" tab in the calculator above to model different amounts and tenures.
Prepayment tip: Most banks allow prepayment after 12 EMIs with a 2–4% penalty. Paying even one extra EMI per year significantly reduces your total interest burden — use the amortization table in the tool to see how.
Car Loan & Bike EMI Calculator
The car loan EMI calculator helps you compare on-road price financing vs down payment trade-offs. Most banks finance 80–90% of the car's on-road price. Typical rates range from 8.5%–12% depending on the car model and your credit score.
The bike EMI calculator works identically but for two-wheelers — typical bike loan amounts range from ₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh with tenures of 12–60 months. Select the "Bike Loan" tab above for pre-configured bike loan defaults.
| Loan Type | Typical Amount | Rate | Max Tenure |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Car Loan | ₹2L – ₹50L | 8.5–11% | 7 years |
| Used Car Loan | ₹1L – ₹20L | 11–16% | 5 years |
| Bike / Two-Wheeler | ₹50K – ₹5L | 10–14% | 5 years |

What is EMI? — Full Form & Meaning in Hindi
EMI full form: EMI stands for Equated Monthly Installment. It is the fixed monthly amount you pay to repay a loan — covering both the principal (the amount borrowed) and the interest (the cost of borrowing).
EMI kya hota hai (Hindi): EMI ek nishchit maasik rashi hoti hai jo aap apne loan ko chukane ke liye bank ya financial institution ko dete hain. Har EMI mein principal (udhar li gayi rashi) aur interest (byaj) dono shamil hote hain.
The defining characteristic of an EMI is that it stays constant every month — even though the split between principal and interest changes. In early months, most of your EMI goes toward interest. In later months, more goes toward principal. This is called amortization. The year-wise table in the calculator above shows this shift visually.
What is No Cost EMI? — How It Really Works
No Cost EMI means you pay zero additional interest above the product price. However, the economics work in one of two ways:
- Cashback model: The merchant offers a discount equal to the total interest amount. You pay full price in EMIs, but get the discount back as cashback. Net cost = product MRP.
- Product price adjustment: The interest is factored into the non-discounted price. If a product is available for ₹8,000 outright but ₹9,000 on No Cost EMI, the "no cost" refers only to explicit interest charges.
Always compare the outright cash price with the total EMI payout before choosing No Cost EMI. The best no cost deals are on e-commerce platforms (Flipkart, Amazon) with bank co-branded credit cards.
How to Calculate EMI — Formula & Method
The EMI formula is:
Where: P = Principal loan amount · R = Monthly interest rate (Annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) · N = Tenure in months.
Manual example: For a ₹10 lakh loan at 9% per year for 5 years:
R = 9 ÷ 12 ÷ 100 = 0.0075 · N = 60 months
EMI = 10,00,000 × 0.0075 × (1.0075)^60 ÷ [(1.0075)^60 − 1] = ₹20,758/month
Excel formula: =PMT(rate/12, tenure_months, -principal) — for the example above: =PMT(9%/12, 60, -1000000)
EMI Calculator USA, India & All Banks
The EMI calculator for USA works for US home mortgages and personal loans using the same formula. In the US, the equivalent of EMI is called a "monthly mortgage payment." The key difference is that US loans use APR (Annual Percentage Rate) which includes fees, while Indian EMI calculations use flat interest rate or reducing balance rate.
For the EMI calculator India covering all major banks — the interest rate is the most critical variable. Indian bank rates fluctuate with RBI's repo rate decisions. When RBI increases repo rates, EMBLRs and EBRs rise, increasing new loan EMIs. Existing floating-rate borrowers see tenure extensions or EMI hikes.
During festive seasons (October–December), most Indian banks offer special concessional rates — checking EMI at those rates using this tool can save significant amounts over the loan tenure.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the full form of EMI?
EMI stands for Equated Monthly Installment. It is the fixed monthly payment you make to repay a loan, combining both principal repayment and interest charges. The word "equated" means the payment stays constant every month throughout the loan tenure.
How is EMI calculated?
EMI is calculated using the formula: EMI = P × R × (1+R)^N / [(1+R)^N – 1], where P is the principal loan amount, R is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and N is the tenure in months. Our calculator applies this formula instantly as you type.
What is no cost EMI?
No Cost EMI means you pay zero interest on your purchase — you only pay the product price split across equal monthly instalments. However, in most cases the interest is pre-discounted from the product price or adjusted as a processing fee. Always check the effective cost before choosing no cost EMI.

What is the difference between EMI and SIP?
EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is a fixed monthly payment made to repay a loan — money goes OUT of your account. SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) is a fixed monthly investment into mutual funds — money GROWS in your account. EMI reduces debt; SIP builds wealth.
Does a higher tenure reduce my EMI?
Yes — a longer tenure means lower monthly EMI but significantly higher total interest paid. For example, a ₹30 lakh loan at 9% for 10 years has an EMI of ₹37,985 (total interest ₹15.58 lakh), while the same loan for 20 years has an EMI of ₹26,993 (total interest ₹34.78 lakh). Shorter tenure saves more money overall.
